BKBH is pleased to announce that Shareholder and Indian Law Practice Group chair Evan M.T. Thompson was awarded the prestigious Ray Cross (Mi-Ha-Ka-Ta-Kis) award for his commitment and service to upholding tribal sovereignty. Presented by the Montana Native American Law School Student Association (NALSA) of the Montana School of Law, the award is named in honor of Professor Ray Cross who taught Federal Indian Law. In addition to the award, Evan was also presented with a Pendleton blanket and a tribal warrior’s honor song at the recognition ceremony by representatives of the Blackfeet Nation for his service to his Tribe.
Evan grew up in Heart Butte, Montana on the Blackfeet Indian Reservation. He currently serves as the general counsel for the Blackfeet and Chippewa tribes, and is licensed to practice law in 13 separate tribal jurisdictions in five states in addition to being licensed in Montana state and federal courts. Mr. Thompson represents tribes, tribal entities, tribal businesses, tribal members, and non-Indian clients in a wide range of Indian law related matters in various tribal, state, and federal jurisdictions across the Northwest, often involving sovereign immunity and jurisdictional matters.
