With venerable jury trial experience in courtrooms across Montana, Mr. Canty serves a wide array of clients. Montana doctors rely on him at all stages of the litigation process, from the time a complaint arises, consideration by the Montana Medical-Legal Panel, and ultimately in jury trials. He has substantial experience defending major United States railroads when railroad workers allege on-the-job injuries, and he is a member of the National Association of Railroad Trial Counsel (NARTC). Assisted Living Facilities and Nursing Homes in Montana also rely on Mr. Canty for their defense. His litigation experience also includes large scale environmental/natural resource damage claims. As a former Assistant Attorney General, Special Assistant United States Attorney and county prosecutor, Mr. Canty accepts select criminal cases where he defends individuals and companies accused of alleged criminal acts or regulatory violations.
Personal:
A fourth-generation Montanan, Carlo Canty is a Martindale Hubbell AV-rated defense trial lawyer from Butte. Following in the footsteps of his grandfather and both parents, Mr. Canty earned his undergraduate degree with high honors from Carroll College in Helena. He earned his law degree at the University of San Francisco. Mr. Canty is currently serving on the Board of Directors for the Montana Justice Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing equal access to justice by providing legal aid and pro-bono services to vulnerable members of the community. An appointed member of the Montana Supreme Court’s Civil Jury Instructions Advisory Commission, Mr. Canty’s trial work has been broadcast live nationwide on Court TV. Mr. Canty is a partner and works at BKBH’s main office in Helena. He also coordinates the law firm’s charitable contributions.
He and his wife have three sons. The Cantys enjoy fly-fishing and river trips, hunting and long distance trail running.
