Mr. Bartlett earned his Juris Doctorate from the University of Montana School of Law in 1970. Mr. Bartlett served as an officer in the U.S. Navy Judge Advocate General’s Corps for four years, after which he served as an attorney for the U.S. Department of the Interior and as an assistant U.S. Attorney in Billings. In 1981 he joined Montana Power Company in Butte as the Director of Government Affairs and an attorney, representing the utility in numerous natural resource and contract matters in Montana, several other western states, Canada and Brazil. From January to October of 2001 Mr. Bartlett was the Chief of Staff and Chief Legal Counsel for Governor Martz, who later appointed him as a Council Member on the Northwest Power and Conservation Council. He is the past President of the State Bar of Montana (1999-2000) and a member of the University of Montana School of Law Board of Visitors. Mr. Bartlett’s principal areas of counsel are government affairs, natural resources and utility law.
